A leading Independent Criminal Defence Practice, located in South Manchester, just outside the city centre is currently seeking an experienced Paralegal to join their small team.

The firm specializes in defending allegations of serious fraud and serious complex and organized crime, with a dedicated lawyer leading the defense for individuals and companies facing such charges. The ideal candidate should ideally have a background within Criminal Law or something similar and be capable of quickly adapting to the role.

Responsibilities:
  • Contacting the Police and clients regarding all clients released under investigation, confirming any changes by telephone and/or in writing.
  • Handling calls from the Police Station Call Centre and ensuring clients receive advice promptly.
  • Coordinating police station appointments by liaising with the Police, fee earners, and clients.
  • Managing the office mobile telephone to ensure calls are diverted to the designated person on the Own Solicitor Rota.
  • Producing lists of cases for the upcoming fortnight and distributing them to Criminal Department fee earners before Friday morning meetings.
  • Facilitating legal aid applications for all cases in collaboration with the legal aid advisor.
  • Answering telephone calls during peak times.
  • Opening Police station files in the Case Management System for fee earners and agents.
  • Ensuring files are prepared for fee earners before morning court sessions.
  • Liaising with clients, barristers, experts, and witnesses as necessary.
  • Handling client and other queries effectively.
  • Assisting other fee-earners and staff members as required.
  • Maintaining accurate records and notes related to client matters.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate time recording.
  • Demonstrating a good client manner and professional appearance.
  • Upholding diverse and equality policies in relation to staff and clients, reporting any breaches as necessary.

  • Highly organized and able to perform well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Personable, professional, and focused on client needs.
  • Methodical in their approach to tasks.
