A well-established law firm in Derby is currently seeking a Criminal Solicitor with approximately 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the criminal department, contributing their expertise to the legal team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a varied caseload of criminal matters.
  • Handle cases from initial police station representation through to court proceedings.
  • Hold necessary police station accreditations to provide effective and comprehensive representation to clients during police interviews.
  • Ensure compliance with legal procedures and standards in criminal defence.
  • Participate in the duty solicitor rota, providing on-call services for clients in need of immediate representation.
  • Attend police stations promptly to offer legal advice and representation.
  • Represent clients in Magistrates' Courts and, when required, Crown Courts.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare cases for trial, ensuring a robust defence for clients.
  • Provide clear and concise legal advice to clients, explaining their rights and options at each stage of the criminal process.
  • Build strong client relationships based on trust and effective communication.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified Solicitor with 3 to 5 years of PQE in criminal law.
  • Police station accreditations are essential.
  • Experience in handling a diverse range of criminal cases.
  • Ability to work on the duty solicitor rota and respond promptly to police station callouts.
  • Strong advocacy and negotiation skills.
