Citi is looking to hire an experienced trader to run the convertible bonds trading desk. Your role as desk head will be to price and trade bonds for the Citi franchise and grow the desks revenue through profitable inventory management and market making, whilst looking to expand on Citi's well-established franchise and distribution footprint.

By joining the trading desk for Equities, you will work closely with the primary issuance team on the general convertibles pipeline and will manage the overall book including special situations as well as the market making flow items.
As lead on the desk, you will be expected to grow the team and develop the junior talent on the desk as well as leading on projects to enhance the existing trading strategies by incorporating additional instruments and dynamic procedures.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced trader who is looking to take ownership of a desk and drive the business forward with the support of their peers across the markets business.

What you will do will be varied day to day, but the key drivers for the role are:
  • Responsible for successfully managing the convertible bonds business at Citi, including growing the desk in terms of profitability and size.
  • Effectively risk manage the trading book and oversee the risk of any traders you will manage in your capacity as desk head.
  • Liaise with sales to develop the franchise, anticipating client demand in each respective product/market.
  • Use existing (and help develop) trading dashboards to improve risk management and identify opportunities for revenue generation.
  • Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
What we will need from you:
  • This is not an entry level role, so the successful candidate will need to be already managing risk and will most likely already be running a desk and have experience of successfully managing other traders.
  • Will need to have trading experience in Convertible Bonds or closely related products, with a strong revenue generating track record.
  • Experience of working closely with Sales, Research, and other organizations across Markets to provide market liquidity and help build the Citi franchise through the monetisation of client flows.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication and effective interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of Bloomberg, booking systems, trading protocol, closing technicalities.
