An opening has emerged for a Continuing Airworthiness Engineer within the Technical Services Department of the National Police Air Service (NPAS). In this role, you will be part of a small team, ensuring airworthiness and engineering support to a mixed Fleet of 24 rotary and fixed wing aircraft. You will ensure compliance with the current regulations as relevant to the Organisations BCARA8-25 / BCAR A8-23 approval, Airworthiness Directives and Alert Service Bulletins and you will assist with optimising operational availability by dealing with issues as they arise and proactively seeing them through to a successful conclusion.

The role will require the individual to positively impact the efficient and effective operation of the aircraft in accordance with the highest level of safety standards and in line with Civil Aviation Authority regulations and the Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition (CAME). They will act as the Technical Services Department airworthiness lead for new projects, upgrades, and aircraft modifications and will work with the NPAS project team, contract maintenance organisations and external Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMS) to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and regulatory compliant. Routine work will include scope of work production, work completion reviews, Aircraft Maintenance Program (AMP) reviews, maintenance oversight and technical reviews of documents and information pertaining to the NPAS Fleet.

The successful candidate be one of two Continuing Airworthiness Engineers and will work with the Head of Technical Services and NPAS Senior Leadership Team to seek continuous improvement in service quality, fully adopting the principles of the 'Just Culture' to review processes and to ensure compliance with new and existing legislative requirements. In addition the successful candidate will be capable of gaining CAA Form 4 Approval for National Airworthiness Review Certificate Extensions.


This is a challenging role in a complex environment and requires an individual who is pro-active, driven, and able to prioritise own tasks and work with minimal supervision.

The requirements of the role are as follows:

  • Hold an Engineering Degree or hold/have previously held a CAA Part 66 Engineer Licence.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years' experience working in a continuing airworthiness environment.
  • Experience of carrying out CAM duties within a large organisation, ideally in a related field, e.g. emergency services, armed forces.
  • Ability to use a range of software solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)to prepare and present specialist reports to a range of NPAS Stakeholders.
  • Rotorcraft experience (Desirable).
  • Ability and flexibility to travel throughout England and Wales.
  • Has a full current UK/European Driving License.
