The Team

  • Their expertise lies in Competition, Regulation, and Trade, with a focus on various domains including general competition (antitrust), behavioral investigations, competition litigation, merger control, regulatory affairs, state aid, public procurement, EU, WTO, and international trade.
  • They possess extensive sector knowledge covering energy and natural resources, financial institutions, consumer goods, infrastructure, transportation, manufacturing and industrial sectors, retail, as well as telecoms, media, and technology.

We handle a broad spectrum of contentious and non-contentious competition, regulation, and trade matters globally, encompassing:

  • Cartel and behavioral investigations
  • Competition litigation (private enforcement and appeals)
  • Merger control
  • Antitrust advice
  • Regulatory matters
  • State aid, public procurement, WTO, and trade

More about the role

  • The main emphasis of this position centers on contentious issues, specifically private enforcement and other disputes within the realm of competition.
  • They highlight a top-tier competition litigation practice seamlessly integrated into the Competition, Regulation, and Trade team.
  • This collaboration extends to the broader Dispute Resolution division, QC-led advocacy unit, and inventive document review and management function based in Belfast.
  • The expertise includes defending follow-on, hybrid, and stand-alone claims across multiple jurisdictions, offering strategic advice on private enforcement risks, and navigating the public enforcement process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in the defense of damages actions in the High Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal, and overseeing responses to multi-jurisdictional claims.
  • Optimize workload management, assist senior lawyers, delegate tasks to juniors, and provide feedback.
  • Cultivate and strengthen client relationships by understanding and meeting their needs promptly.
  • Support firm-wide initiatives, uphold our values, mentor juniors, and engage in external activities.
  • Ensure compliance with risk protocols, firm policies, and professional responsibilities.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Ideally, 2-5 years of post-qualified experience in competition law; exceptions considered based on competency.
  • Academic excellence, including a 2:1 degree or equivalent, and first-time passing of solicitors' examinations.
  • Hands-on experience in competition disputes, including in the High Court and/or the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Willingness to mentor and develop Junior Associates and trainees.
