Do you have a passion for supporting young people's emotional health and wellbeing? We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our dedicated team on a part-time (29.6 hours pw) basis as a School-based Community Wellbeing Mentor.

Our School-based Community Wellbeing Mentor works with schools offering a 6-week course. The role requires you to work with up to 3 schools per week supporting up to 8 young people in each group with their emotional health and wellbeing. The course covers the following areas: What is wellbeing, emotional literacy, resilience and self-esteem, anxiety, friendships, anger and dealing with difficult feelings. This course has already been created however you will be expected to adapt the course content to the needs of young people attending the sessions.

You may also hold a small caseload of children and young people (aged 6-18 years old) offering 1:1 support. This will be providing early intervention to those who are experiencing poor emotional health and wellbeing.

Location:

Locality working across Surrey (Waverly, Woking, Surrey Heath and Spelthorne)

Office Base: Leatherhead, KT22 7PL

There is a requirement to attend the office on Tuesday mornings however the rest of the working week is flexible working between the office, out in the community and from home.

Working Pattern:

This is a 4-day position ideally working Tuesday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (these days can be negotiated). The role can require occasional weekend working to meet the needs of the service (this is rare and plenty of notice would be provided).

Essential Requirements to evidence in your application form:

  • Due to the required travel across the locality, a full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle is essential.
  • Experience of working with Children and Young People.
  • A good understanding of the issues which impact young People's Emotional Health and Wellbeing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to accurately and clearly record case notes.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with children and young people, always putting them at the heart of decision making whilst working in a holistic approach with their families and other professionals.
  • Experience of delivering group and one-one work with children and young people and take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to your work.

In this role, you will provide direct support, working collaboratively and with a strengths-based approach to support children and young people to improve their emotional wellbeing and resilience.

The Community Wellbeing Team operates within the iThrive Framework where choice and shared decision making is led by the child or young person. You will receive training on the iThrive model at the start of your employment.
