Commissioning Engineer

Our client, a leading strategic project management company specializing in clean water asset services, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer for the growth and ongoing success of their end-to-end commissioning service. This integral role is crucial to the onsite operations of the service, responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of clean water mains back into supply. The Commissioning Engineer will manage onsite operations at all stages of the commissioning process, working closely with the Field Specialist and serving as the central point of contact for all stakeholders during service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure complete compliance with Company, client, and industry Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
* Undertake specialist pressure testing, chlorination, dechlorination, and the commissioning of water assets when required.
* Conduct detailed pre, post, and live site surveys, inspections, and monitoring, including supporting RAMS preparation, approval, and onsite briefings for the safe and compliant delivery of the service.
* Liaise directly with all stakeholders, including management, desktop and onsite teams, third-party contractors, suppliers, and client representatives to ensure high standards of communication between all parties.
* Closely monitor the performance of water treatment systems, analysing key parameters such as flow rates, pressure, turbidity, chlorine levels, pH balance, and other relevant indicators to verify compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Issue Identification and Troubleshooting: Identify root causes of issues during the commissioning process and troubleshoot to resolve, repair, or make adjustments in liaison with all stakeholders.
* Maintain comprehensive records of all activities, including survey and audit reports, photo evidence, tests, and adjustments throughout the commissioning process.
* Manage and maintain equipment, including regulatory pressure testing and disinfection inspections, maintenance of water quality testing and monitoring devices, hoses, fittings, and specialist vehicles.
* Support the strategic growth of the commissioning service by refining current processes to incorporate pressure testing and other service requirements.
* During intermittent commissioning service downtime, liaise directly with the Project Team to manage and deliver probe installations and maintenance programs or alternative workstreams.
* Some extended shifts, including evenings and weekends, will be required within working time regulations, either planned or at short notice.
* Undertake line management duties, including ongoing teaching and mentoring, annual and mid-year appraisals, setting objectives, and fostering a positive work culture for your immediate team.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a dedicated specialist commissioning role, including pressure testing, chlorination, and dechlorination.
* CSCS / SMSTS / SSSTS qualification.
* EUSR Water Hygiene.
* EUSR SHEA Water qualification.
* EUSR Hydrostatic Pressure Testing.
* NRSWA Supervisor.
* Valve operations, including CALM Networks.
* Good IT knowledge, including GIS mapping tools, PDA/Tablet use, and online reporting software.
* Full, clean UK driving license.

Desired:
* ACOP 8 and L8 Water treatment.
* MEICA commissioning activities.
* Confined space entry.

Personal Specifications:
* Strong and practical industry knowledge of large diameter mains and the commissioning service.
* Hands-on experience flushing commercial and industrial water systems to BSRIA standard.
* Capable of producing and delivering RAMS to ensure safety and compliance to the highest standard.
* Strong and evidencable leadership skills, able to coordinate resources to deliver works both as a leader and an operative.
* Proven track record of owning or leading tasks and activities with a drive to see jobs through to resolution.
* Methodical, measured approach to work with an eagerness to collaborate with team members in the field and office.
* Able to work flexibly and reactively depending on business operations and requirements, including day, night, and weekend shifts as required.
