We are looking for Senior Commercial Underwriters , Commercial Underwriters & Trainee Commercial Underwriters to join our team. The positions benefit from a balance of remote home working and office working and roles will focus on underwriting new business and servicing existing accounts generated by the brokers who deal with us. You will use your knowledge and judgement to evaluate new & existing risks within a delegated authority environment.

Key Skills

· You can or will learn to handle new business, renewal, rating and adjustment enquiries and also cover requests, referring to in house senior underwriters or to risk carriers if required.

· Your skill will develop to include selecting the right risks & generating strong relationships with our brokers . You'll seek further to expand these relationships to generate more business from these brokers

· Offering a genuinely responsive service to our brokers across our distribution channels & be able to work at speed when workflow dictates.

· Stay in sync with underwriting authority & quickly learn & apply the companies risk attitude & underwriting culture.

Experience

Senior Underwriter

· Knowledge, understanding of & underwriting experience in, our core product offerings (Commercial Combined, Property Owners, Liability, Commercial Packages). You'll be able to utilise your technical knowledge to queries if required.

Underwriter

Some underwriting experience and a willingness to develop into a more senior position

Trainee Underwriter

Some relevant experience or transferable skills for a learning postion with willingness to progress

All Positions

· Effective communication skills with colleagues.

· Attention and accuracy to detail in data entry and presenting data.

· Able to use standard MS office products being Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint & relevant IT systems for the business unit.

The Candidate

The positions may suit the experienced , from both underwriting & broking back grounds , and at trainee level , will offer a great entry level

· Do you have strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients and colleagues? You should have a good level of numeracy and literacy coupled with excellent attention to detail.

· Analytical problem solving approach with initiative and a 'can do’ attitude. A natural ability to look at the finer details and ask questions; digging deeper where necessary.

· An empathetic, self-motivated standout colleague who takes ownership and accountability, delivering real results.

Chapman & Stacey is a 60 year old business , predominantly operating as a Delegated Authority MGA, supported by a number of risk carriers including international insurers & Lloyds Syndicates. We trade traditionally & through digital distribution channels & maintain steady growth across all products. We value underwriting profit more highly than premium growth.

Hours - 8.30am - 4.45pm - Monday to Friday

Salary range - £22k to £38k plus bonuses

Pension - Contribution 5% of salary

Holiday - 21 days + all bank holidays + 1 ½ extra days to be taken only between Xmas & New Year
