"You could say it’s the best of both worlds; we’re still an autonomous and independent broker, but we’ve now got the backing and buying power of being part of a larger group - and our clients really do feel the benefit", says the MD of this longstanding Chartered Insurance Broker in Leeds.

Already closing in on its 2024 targets, this firm is enjoying a sustained period of growth - both organically and via the acquisition of quality new accounts. Indeed, this is a newly-created role to help maintain the levels of client service that this broker is famed for delivering in the local market. As such, this dynamic organisation can be quite flexible about this appointment and welcomes applications from time-served veterans of the industry, through to less-experienced Commercial Brokers and Account Handlers currently in their first insurance role. Accordingly, the finer points of the role, such as the client size and make up of your portfolio, can be tweaked to suit your skills, experiences and ambitions.

As a Commercial Account Handler / Broker you will work in close conjunction with Account Executives and play a key part in the management of a portfolio of clients. This will include answering day to day enquires, dealing with mid-term amendments, preparing renewals and conducting marketing exercises. You will build a detailed understanding of your clients’ businesses, identifying any exposures to risks and proposing solutions to mitigate these. You will also be responsible for negotiating with Underwriters to secure the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums.

Whilst it’s essential that you have some commercial insurance knowledge, it doesn’t matter if this is just one class of insurance, gained in an SME environment, or dealing with complex corporate cases. You must also have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and be able to build a professional rapport with stakeholders at all levels, from all walks of life! You should be well-organised, with a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills.

In return, you will benefit from a joining a broker that is known for having one of the friendliest and most social teams in the Yorkshire market - with the option to attend regular insurance industry events. This firm is also known for offering unrivalled progression, with many of the senior team having joined in a junior capacity and risen through the ranks - even the MD joined as an Office Junior 25 years ago! In addition to a comprehensive salary and benefits package, as one would expect from a Chartered Insurance Broker, you will receive support towards professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute.
