Position: Clinical Lead

Responsible to: Registered Manager

Purpose of position: To support the Registered Manager to ensure the service is well-led, striving to be recognised as outstanding by CQC and all people using our service.

The Clinical Lead will provide supervision, management, leadership and support to the Nursing staff and Care Practitioners and will work closely with the other home managers to ensure that the companies philosophy of care is adhered to while care is delivered in a compassionate and sensitive manner. The Clinical Lead will help in ensuring the home has a welcoming and homely atmosphere and will assist in ensuring all regulatory and contractual standards are met and exceeded.

The Clinical Lead will perform on-call duties for the Home when specifically requested to do so by the Manager, and at all times in the absence of the Manager in relation to sickness or holidays.

Principal responsibilities
  1. To assist in the recruitment of nursing staff
  • Working with the Registered Manager, Identify the recruitment needs of the home, liaise with senior management and the Czajka recruitment department.
  • Assist in the review of Nursing and Care Practitioner Job descriptions ensuring they are clear and amended as needed and in agreement with the Home Manager and Directors
  • Assist as needed in the review of applications/CV’s, planning and conducting interviews
  • Ensure all paperwork relating to application and interview process is completed and passed to administrator for follow up.
  • Ensure contact is maintained with the applicant if there is any delay to the on boarding so they are fully informed of progress
  1. Nursing and Care Practitioner On boarding
  • Liaise with the registered manager/Administrator and/or support manager to ensure initial training either classroom or online is booked, attended and passed prior to commencement
  • Ensure the new recruit is expected by the team, receives a warm welcome and is introduced to key members of the team
  • Following the Buddy system ensure the new employee is partnered with a suitable person and is able to shadow for the first 3 shifts as a minimum
  • Ensure the new recruits have Fire training and health and safety training specific to the home on or before their first day of employment and are trained in company policy and culture including the roles and responsibilities of home managers and a brief over view of the care group as a whole
  • Ensure competencies are completed by the end of the 12 week induction period
  • Conduct probationary meetings at week 4 and week 8 and ensure that any issues are explored so new recruits can be supported to reach expectations. Report any concerns to management and take an active role in the performance management of staff
  • Ensure a final probationary meeting is held at the 12 week point.

  1. Ongoing training
  • In agreement with the other home managers, identify training needs of Nurses and Care Practitioners and liaise with the Registered Manager/Support Manager to arrange this within an appropriate timescale

  1. Support and management of nurses and Care Practitioners
  • Provide a developmental focus for practice through performance management and regular clinical supervision and appraisal ensuring dissemination of good practice and exploration of issues to enable staff to meet the company expectations
  • Support nurses through the revalidation process through reflective discussion and acting as confirmer (As confirmer you are not assessing the quality of the evidence submitted. You are confirming that all evidence has been completed. Quality assurance is within the remit of the NMC)
  • To host a monthly nurses and care practitioner meeting ensuring issues found through care plan and medication audits are shared and addressed.
  • To be a visible presence in the home so that staff and residents can feels assured that the quality of clinical care is maintained to the highest standards
  • Take a lead on promoting the values of the home and challenge behaviours that do not match those values and behaviours expected
  • To carry out/lead on investigations including medication errors, safeguarding and medical concerns, taking advice and seeking support from the General Manager, Registered Manager, Senior Managers, Group Clinical Lead, and HR Managers as appropriate
  1. Clinical oversight of all residents
  • To provide a clinical oversight of the needs of the residents
  • To oversee a weekly GP round ensuring follow up of any actions recommended
  • To carry out audits of care plans and daily nursing notes on a monthly basis
  • To carry out medication audit on a monthly basis
  • Liaising with the multidisciplinary team and ensuring timely referral to external agencies
