We are working with a local authority who are looking for a Children's Alternative Provision Improvement Project Manager with a key focus to manage, execute, and advise on complex projects and programmes within the Alternative Provision Improvement area. 

The core purpose of this project is to ensure that the wider service that oversees the Alternative Provision across the councils can be redesigned to ensure all children and young people are given the best chance to succeed whatever placement they attend. 

Location: South West based Authority 

Set-up: Hybrid role, with some working on site

Rate: £300 per day via Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Duration: 6-12 months Contract

Hours: Full-time position

The work will include:

  • Align services across children’s services to ensure there is a clear process for referral, placement and monitoring of children and young people currently accessing alternative provision
  • Ensure that the budget spent effectively, and making certain that children and young people are supported at the earliest opportunity and able to maintain their full-time provision
  • Plan and carry out regular project quality reviews in order to identify, assess and take action to mitigate risks to project success
  • Established systems to track key programme/project metrics, benefits, budgets, risks and highlight variances/trends in order to manage and control programme/project progress and contribute to effective governance of the programme/project
  • Build effective client relationships with internal and external stakeholders or customers to help them understand project objectives and progress.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Relevant project management qualification, e.g. PRINCE2 or equivalent
  • Detailed knowledge in area of service or specialism including a general, broader understanding of the public sector and the issues that it faces
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the issues and barriers to education affecting children/young people
  • Understanding of school data and how the likes of attendance and exclusion can impact on pupil attainment and outcomes
  • Experience of managing projects and project teams
