We are currently recruiting for an experienced and highly motivated Materials Buyer for our Client who specialises in recycled plastic manufacturing. Our client is the home of stokbord® the UK's leading recycled plastic sheet range.

Role Summary
In the role of Materials Buyer, you will oversee the procurement of all necessary raw materials to fulfil both current and future production needs, alongside managing the procurement of indirect supplies for the site. Your responsibilities will extend to fostering and managing supplier relationships to guarantee the delivery of excellent quality, service, and value to the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the supply chain for key raw materials, including supplier qualification, replenishment strategies, contract negotiation, and resolving conflicts with the supply base.
  • Manage procurement for indirect purchasing needs at the site.
  • Foster supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, and mitigate cost increases through various means.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor material movement to align with production schedules, adjusting as necessary.
  • Negotiate and secure commitments from suppliers for timely delivery of quality materials, maintaining accurate status reports.
  • Prioritise and address material shortages to minimise production disruptions.
  • Manage raw material stock levels within agreed targets and reduce dead stock.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements.
  • Perform routine purchasing tasks such as inputting purchase orders, managing correspondence, and expediting orders.
  • Analyse market trends to perform purchasing decisions.
  • Independently resolve discrepancies related to purchasing actions.
  • Achieve cost savings through target costing, value analysis, and efficient material management.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Safety, Health, Environment, and other department heads to set specifications for goods and services.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Research & Development to evaluate and integrate new items into the business.

The successful Buyer will hold the following skills & experience
  • Must have previous experience in supply chain, purchasing/procurement and/or contract management.
  • CIPS qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in tender process and bid management.
  • Excellent IT skills especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in the plastics industry would be advantageous.
  • Competent in cost reduction management.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
