Based South or Central England

The Person

It’s an obvious point but you’ll be good at your job. That means you’ll understand that buying and merchandising is really about selling profitably and that buying a range is about being commercial, understanding and predicting, trends, working with suppliers to produce product that people will want in their homes but never losing sight of the bottom line. You’ll be ambitious. It’s a cliché but you really will want room to develop and be comfortable making decisions and benefiting from their consequences. This is a job with room to make a difference so you'll be confident that, if left to make decisions, you can make good ones.

The Role

Your starting point is that you have a business to develop but beyond that, it’s largely up to you how that’s done. You’ll shape the category, which is broadly within seasonal goods and home decor, being responsible for just about everything from supplier to shop floor. On Buying, you'll be commercial and happy working with suppliers to develop a range but you'll also need to be all over your numbers, comfortable managing end-to-end processes, forecasting volume and sales and demand planning.

The Company

This is a retailer with a long and rich heritage that has invested heavily in store refurbishment and is actively expanding throughout the UK. It’s one of the best-known businesses in its sector The location for the role is flexible but you will be based in Southern or Central England with access to the M6/M40/M4/M25 network.
