Business Development Executive

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Business Development Executive (BDE) to join our global team. The BDE will play a crucial role in driving order intake for Horstman and the RENK group by identifying, shaping, and capturing new business opportunities. This position requires a candidate with a strong background in international business development, preferably in defence or high integrity engineering markets.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Lead the end-to-end business development process, including shaping customer requirements and market space for new products.
  • Develop marketplace information, customer and competitor intelligence to inform product development and business strategy.
  • Communicate customer feedback to the leadership team and manage customer expectations.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and agree on agreements, MoUs, contracts, and other legal documents within authorisation limits.
  • Create and deliver aspects of the order intake plan.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, mentoring and supporting their professional development.
  • Lead and participate in ad-hoc capture teams to win new business.
  • Develop bid and proposal strategies, determine price to win, and lead negotiations.
  • Coordinate customer visits with senior management and ensure productive itineraries.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with global export and licensing rules.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, listening, and communication.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, leadership, and team skills.
  • Agile, driven self-starter with conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ethically aware and results-oriented.
  • Successful track record in international business development.
  • Ability to develop a network of customers and businesses.
  • Existing network of relevant international contacts in government and industry.
  • Ability to understand and promote complex engineered solutions.
  • Willingness to undertake significant international travel.
  • Ability to multitask and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Right to work in host company location and ability to travel internationally.
  • Fluent command of written and spoken English.
Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge of suspension, transmissions, or related driveline technologies and markets.
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics modelling and simulation.
  • Knowledge of environmental control and power generation systems.
  • Experience in high integrity engineering service provision.
  • Comprehensive understanding of capture planning, including price-to-win.
  • Experience with trade compliance legislation for defence products and services.
  • Additional language skills.
  • Ability to obtain relevant security clearance.
