Job Purpose:

To be responsible for simulation, integration and validation of the HV Battery systems at component, pack and vehicle level, across all AML programmes:

  • Working with Battery and BMS Engineers to define component functionality and integration test through the development.
  • Defining the associated 1D models for battery systems and its sub-components as well as the overall plant models.
  • Being the main point of contact for the team, supporting vehicle test activities
  • Ownership of the MiL activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Battery working group, you’ll be responsible to conduct the validation plans as well as analyze and debug any battery issue coming from the fleet.
  • Working closely with Battery and BMS Engineers to define component functionality and integration tests required for each stage of the development cycle.
  • Developing and coordinating test plans to ensure the BMS is fully validated by the time the certification is required.
  • Developing plant models for cells, contactors, sensors, and other components of the battery systems.
  • Conducting software tests on component, rig and vehicles to validate different functionalities, using the quality processes for automotive industry: 8D, Ishikawa, etc.
  • Issue tracking reported during testing: being part of the root cause analysis team, ensuring the adequate validation.
  • Task tracking – Weekly program status report as part of the Battery working group.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Advanced understanding of Battery Systems and BMS - State flow, Diagnostic, Fault thresholds, Software flashing
  • Advanced understanding of Vehicle communication protocols, such as CAN, LIN and Ethernet
  • Hands-on experience working with vehicle LV and HV systems.
  • Expert user of MATLAB - Simulink
  • Strong user of Simscape.
  • Prior modelling experience on thermal and electrical domains.
  • Communication toolsets: VECTOR toolset (CANaylzer/ CANoe) or Bosh (ETAS / INCA).
  • Prior experience modelling the mechanical domain.
  • Prior battery component design experience, such as busbars, connectors, etc.
  • Automotive electrical design and development.
  • Engineering Degree in Electrical, Electronic and/or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organise multiple inputs into succinct summary.
  • Accomplished writer of technical and project status reports.
  • Fluent presenter of technical information at all levels including to senior director level at AML and in external companies.
  • Ability to challenge experts, consultants and seniors by presenting measured opinion.
  • Passion for the advancement of hybrid and electric powertrain and vehicle technology.
