ASD Teaching Assistant
Location: Newport, Wales

Salary: Grade 3 SCP 3-6 (£22,737 - £23,893) Pro Rata

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 32.5hrs per week, 39 weeks per year (term time only)

Start date: September 2024

Our client is looking for a passionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with autism and associated learning difficulties. They provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for pupils aged 3-19 with Autism, who have a variety of needs some may be verbal, but the majority of pupils are non-verbal. The school is split onto 2 sites covering secondary and primary aged children, with classes based on ability rather than age. The goal is to help each pupil achieve their full potential in a setting where they are valued and respected.

Day to day of the role:

  • Work under the direction of the class teacher and the special educational needs and disability coordinator (SENDCO).
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of lessons tailored to the needs of pupils with complex learning difficulties.
  • Support the assessment and recording of pupil progress.
  • Help manage behaviour and ensure the safety of pupils.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, events, and training to contribute to the wider school community.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Highly empathetic, patient and nurturing.
  • Experience working with children and young people with autism and associated learning difficulties.
  • Positive and flexible attitude with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.
  • Willingness to learn and develop professional practice.
  • You will need to be available on a full time, ongoing basis as the children require consistency.
