Autism Support - Leeds

We are currently working with a cluster of schools based in the West Leeds area who are looking to employ several Special Needs Teaching Assistants with previous experience working with high level Autism in either their central or partnership sites.

Throughout this role as a SEN TA, you will be required to support learners on a 1:1 basis in class, and to help within small groups of two to seven learners as well. The day-to-day support isn't just focused on supporting learners academically, throughout the day there will be focus on assisting them with both their social and behavioural needs too.

The aim of this role is to help ensure that both the social and learning aspect of education are made accessible for all learners no matter what needs or challenges they may face.

Within these specific school settings, there are several vacancies across both the primary and secondary sites, however due to the various needs of the children and how the educational site runs, the ideal candidate would be someone who could work well and be adaptable to children of all ages. However, if you are specifically either a primary or secondary SEN TA, then please still apply for this role.

Essential requirements:

  • Previous SEN experience (Autism/Asperger's)
  • SEN TA and classroom support experience
  • Effective behaviour management strategies and able to help learners regulate their emotions and behaviour
  • Worked with verbal, pre-verbal and non-verbal Autistic learners

Key Skills:

  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, energetic
  • Able to build meaningful relationships with both learners and staff
  • Effective communication skills within classroom support
  • Team Teach and physical intervention techniques (Certificate within the last 2 years) - We can also provide you with this training.
