Contract Type: Permanent 

Location: Hybrid (minimum 20% on-site in our Oxford Science Park office)

About the role 

We’re looking for an Associate Data Scientist to join our team working on an exciting new project within our Registry team. The work will include rebuilding data models which will identify the industry market share of the .uk domains that we manage. You’ll also play an integral part in Nominet’s mission to keep the internet safe in the UK, building models to identify any domains that are being used for abusive purposes. We’re looking for someone who has a strong mathematical and problem-solving approach; some data may not always be well-curated, so you’ll need to be able to work alongside the wider data team to translate this data into a suitable format, as well as feel confident communicating with various stakeholders across Nominet. 

About you and your experience 

  • Commercial experience with Python or R 

  • Demonstrable experience of building a machine learning model 

  • Strong mathematical capabilities 

  • Nice to have – experience building ML models in areas such as HTML crawling/NLP/image processing/neural networks 

  • Nice to have – experience working with Databricks and/or MLflow 

The interview process – what to expect

  • 30-min screening call with a Talent Partner via Teams 

  • 1h30-min video interview with Head of Insight + Senior Data Scientist – this will include  competency/situation-based questions and a 20-min case study answer prepared in advance
