ASSISTANT DIRECTOR of CURRICULUM: HEAD of the ARTS
Salary: c£59,037 - £65,371 (dependent upon skills and experience)

Summary & Overview

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) was the first college in the country to be rated ‘Outstanding’ in all categories under the current Ofsted inspection framework. Comprising two modern college campuses, an independent training provider and a rural residential facility, NSCG has a c£50m turnover and boasts some of the best accommodation to be found in the sector.

In recognition of our significant recent growth and success we have taken the opportunity to establish a new Faculty of the Arts to be led by an Assistant Director of Curriculum. With a broad ranging Creative and Performing Arts curriculum at both our Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stafford campuses the Faculty will offer provision from Level 2 to 5 to around 1,500 students on full-time study programmes as well as part-time adult courses and HE.

Reporting to the Director of Curriculum & Performance, this is an opportunity for an ambitious and dynamic manager with a first class understanding of A level and BTec delivery in one or more Faculty’s curriculum areas and the ability to lead a diverse staff team to achieve outstanding levels of performance.


The principal responsibilities of the post holder are:

  • To promote the College’s vision and mission and strategic objectives and to promote the values and behaviours which underpin them.
  • To act as an ambassador for the College and to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct in promoting at all times its corporate aims and objectives both internally and externally.
  • To adhere to principles of corporate responsibility and to ensure and promote the active involvement of the Faculty in the life and operation of the College for the benefit of staff and students alike.
  • To promote the Faculty and NSCG as the first choice destination for the brightest young people from north Staffordshire through an active programme of liaison with schools, parents and other relevant partners .
  • To drive up success rates, high grades and positive destinations (i.e. university or sustainable employment) to outstanding levels and lead the Faculty to achieve excellence throughout.
  • To promote curriculum innovation and development as essential elements of the Faculty’s commitment to raising standards and excellence in all areas of its activity.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Holds an appropriate academic or professional qualification.
  • Has a good general understanding of funding and management issues affecting the FE sector.
  • Has interpersonal, motivational and communication skills of the highest order.
  • Has demonstrable experience of successful track record in a similar role.
  • Has high level problem-solving, project-management and negotiation skills.
  • Has interpersonal, motivational and communication skills of the highest order.
  • Is able to work as a member of a closely-knit team, making a positive contribution to the management of the College and its success.
  • Has an understanding of their responsibilities relating to the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
