We are looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant, with a primary focus on cashbooks, ledgers, and process/systems improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in assisting the management accountant in preparation of management accounts within a manufacturing environment, possess excellent analytical skills, and be able to drive process efficiencies to support our growth trajectory.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Cash Management:
  • Maintain accurate cashbooks and ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Monitor cash flow projections and work closely with finance and operational teams to optimise cash utilisation.
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve cash management processes.
  • Ledger Management:
  • Oversee the maintenance of general ledgers and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Review and analyse ledger accounts to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Management Information (MI): - Area of development.
  • Generate timely and accurate management reports, including budget vs. actual analysis, variance analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Develop financial models and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
  • Present financial information to FD and provide insights for performance improvement.
  • Process and Systems Improvement:
  • Assess existing financial processes and systems to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements and automation initiatives.
  • Streamline reporting processes and enhance data accuracy through system optimisation.
  • Financial Analysis:
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support business planning, cost optimisation, and investment decisions.
  • Analyse manufacturing costs, including direct labour, materials, and overhead, to identify opportunities for cost reduction, including job costings.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of proposed projects, future. Part of Cash management.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; AAT Qualified looking to do CIMA.
Proven experience as a Assistant Accountant in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on cash management, ledger management, and MI reporting.
Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and cost accounting methodologies.
Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques - part of the team.
Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (Preferably Sage 200 ).
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and drive change through influence and collaboration.
Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
