Reed Accountancy & Finance are delighted to be working with a growing business in South Tyneside who are looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their team on a permanent basis. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the Financial Director in the running of the accounting function for the business. This is a varied and challenging role which will be very rewarding for the right candidate. 

Main responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Sales Ledger – posting sales invoices, allocating receipts, checking POs.  Chasing debtors, monthly statement submissions
  • Purchase Ledger – posting purchase invoices, matching to POs, Supplier payments, checking creditor statements 
  • Online electronic banking
  • Month and year end reconciliations
  • Management of expense cards, daily checking and chasing receipts
  • Checking & filing quarterly VAT returns
  • Payroll, management of personnel records and hours weekly reporting

The ideal candidate:

  • Ideally fully AAT qualified at a minimum with strong bookkeeping skills.
  • Fully competent in Xero cloud accounting software (or QuickBooks)
  • Ability to create pivots/lookup/bespoke reports in Excel is essential
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Ability to understand & analyse the P&L, Balance Sheet
  • Familiarity with reviewing terms and conditions  i.e. supplier contracts
  • Attention to detail and meticulous in approach.
  • Strong personality to be able to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work on own initiative
