Assistant Accountant

Your new company
Hays are working in partnership with a leading construction company expanding their Finance operations. As Assistant Accountant you will join an established and successful finance team reporting to the Financial Controller.

Your new role
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller you will be an integral part of the accounts support team in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the finance function. You will enjoy a very busy, hands-on role with responsibilities including

• Processing a high volume of supplier and subcontractor invoices and reconciling statements and preparing spreadsheets for supplier and subcontractor payment runs.
• Communication with suppliers/customers and internal management to resolve queries
• You will prepare and submit VAT returns, RCT Returns, PAYE Returns, bank reconciliations and maintain the fixed asset register and allocate customer payments on accounts
• Assisting the accountant in preparing monthly contract P&Ls Assisting with the preparation of internal management reports
• Supporting with month and year end

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience within a fast-paced finance department
• Part qualified and studying CIMA or ACCA
• Strong skills in the use of Microsoft Excel and the ability to resolve queries and use initiative
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills with high volume data and transactions and strong level of accuracy and attention to detail.
