Sheridan Maine is partnering with an innovative SME company in the search for an Assistant Accountant. Our client is a dynamic organisation at the forefront of their industry, offering an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about finance and eager to contribute to a growing business.

As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a vital role in supporting the finance team with various accounting tasks and responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in finance who is looking to further develop their skills and grow within a dynamic company.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant will include:
  • Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers, including credit control and managing supplier payments.
  • Assisting with sales invoicing and project costing.
  • Preparation of VAT returns.
  • Overseeing accounts payable email inbox and liaising with suppliers.
  • Reconciling bank and credit card accounts using Xero.
  • Oversee the purchase order system.
  • Allocating costs to projects and timely reconciliation.
  • Maintaining and reconciling a balanced general ledger.
  • Preparation and maintenance of weekly timesheets for external payroll provider.
  • Preparation of financial reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and variance reporting, financial KPIS and cashflow reporting.
  • Maintaining a fixed asset register and posting monthly depreciation.
  • Calculating and posting monthly accruals / prepayments.

The successful Assistant Accountant will:
  • Be studying towards your AAT or CIMA and currently be part qualified.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero).
  • Have an interest in simplifying accounting functions including the adoption of new technology.
