Agency Social Worker - Child Protection Team - Bristol

Bristol City Council are seeking an Experienced Social Worker to join their Child Protection team

Bristol workers are coming into the office on a rota basis, there is an expectation that they will be in when they are on duty (one in every four weeks) but there is the opportunity for people to come in on other days if they need to. For a new worker, Bristol would expect that they would be able to come in to meet their manager, the team and complete their induction in addition to this.

Bristol workers are visiting families face to face if needed - we have risk assessments for all of the families we work with based on a range of factors including risk to the children, home conditions (whether there is space to socially distance etc…), any additional vulnerabilities of the children and other family members etc

Caseloads are between 15 and 20. This includes court child protection and children looked after work.

The service works with Children in Need, Children needing Protection and undertakes Court Work. Over the last year we have reduced numbers of children on a child protection plan, numbers in care and the teams work hard to help families make changes and avoid statutory intervention.

Across Bristol there are 26 small units. Each unit has a Team Manager, three Social Workers, a Support Worker, and an Administrator. The unit provides good support and allows Social Work practice to shine.

The low manager to practitioner ratio offers Social Workers excellent support to develop and deepen practice and skills.

On many occasions visitors to our services have commented on the positive morale they encounter when meeting our workers.

At the area office in North Bristol there is free parking and easy access to local amenities.

Area Services work closely with the Families in Focus team in the locality and there are a range of services available to support good work with families.

There are good links with partners in other agencies, and an emphasis on whole family working
