Adult Education Ofsted Consultant - Non-Executive Director

Home-based with meetings in London and national travel

Three-year appointment with a two-term limit (up to 12 days work per annum)

£500 per day, plus travel expenses

About the Role:

My Clients Skills and Training Services Team (STS) is seeking a motivated and experienced Adult Education Ofsted Consultant to serve as a Non-Executive Director on its Board. As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction for STS. This position requires strong leadership, management, and soft skills to drive continuous improvement and excellence in adult education, including apprenticeships.

Key Role and Daily Tasks:

  • Establish the strategic direction of STS in collaboration with senior leaders, developing and regularly reviewing the vision statement.
  • Demonstrate high standards of corporate governance, including audit and risk assurance, to address key financial and other risks.
  • Provide oversight and monitoring of the continuous improvement plan to meet statutory requirements and business ambitions.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and administrative requirements for the use of public funds.
  • Receive and advise on regular financial information concerning the management of STS.
  • Advise on current and future opportunities, considering the benefit to customers, citizens, and STS capabilities.
  • Review and advise on the curriculum offer, teaching, learning, and assessment approaches.
  • Advise on the quality of education and services provided by STS and collaborative partners.
  • Review self-assessment arrangements and recommend the STS Self-Assessment Report.
  • Review and recommend the annual Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Review inspection reports and oversee associated action plans.
  • Ensure effective policies and systems enable high performance across all services.
  • Advise on steps planned by the Senior Leadership Team to address developments affecting STS's functions.
  • Ensure effective control and due diligence in mergers, acquisitions, contracting, and partnerships.
  • Meet statutory obligations for equality and diversity.
  • Review governance performance and effectiveness.
  • Regularly review safeguarding processes to ensure learner and staff safety.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Significant knowledge of adult learning, including apprenticeships.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements in adult learning, including apprenticeships.
  • Experience in assurance, audit, or regulatory environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and remain solutions-focused.
  • Analytical skills to deal with ambiguity, recognise patterns, and identify emerging issues.
  • Commitment to promoting values and culture of learning and excellence.
  • Desire to add value and commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
  • Ability to collaborate internally and externally, work independently, and solve problems.
  • Professional approach, maintaining confidentiality and high-quality standards.
