Position: Finance Officer

Location: Washington, Tyne and Wear

Working Hours: 39 hours per week (Monday - Thursday: 07:55 - 16:35, Friday: 07:55 - 13.35)

Shift: Day Shift Role

Salary: Up to £25,500.00 per year

Job Purpose:

As a Finance Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring financial deadlines are met and work completed accurately. Your flexibility and willingness to support overtime and shift work are essential to fulfilling financial demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assist with inputting purchase ledger invoices.
  • Check and input staff expenses claims, credit card expenses, and travel advances.
  • Oversee and check supplier statement reconciliations monthly.
  • Prepare and check bi-monthly payment runs.
  • Prepare ad hoc payments as required.
  • Prepare daily bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly accruals and prepayments.
  • Provide support with inputting sales invoices.
  • Update sales analysis report spreadsheet monthly.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset register and carry out Fixed Asset audits.
  • Ensure finance policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are up to date.
  • Create and input journals.
  • Check red diesel fuel stock balance and reconcile with sales.
  • Collate customer credit application data, prepare credit application, and manage credit limits.
  • Organize and attend monthly credit control meetings.
  • Assist with internal and external audit preparation.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of finance areas including Sales, Purchases, Banking, Balance sheet, Profit and Loss, and Budgeting.
  • Experience with Sage accounting systems and financial journals.
  • Proficiency in using Internet banking systems.
  • Experience working in a finance environment and within a team.
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel functions.
  • Basic understanding of VAT preparation & returns and reconciliations.
  • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.

Education/Qualification:

  • Qualified / Part Qualified Accountant with recognized accountancy body (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA).
  • Completion of AAT certificates or similar.
  • Basic and Intermediate Word and Excel qualification.

Other:

  • Must ensure confidentiality and security of all financial and payroll data.
  • Flexible and able to work overtime at short notice.
