Accounts Apprentice - AAT Level 3 - Assistant Accountant

A small and growing accountancy practice based in Wickford, part of a dynamic national network, has an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Assistant Accountant to deal with all aspects of accountancy, taxation, and client relationships.

Our client is looking for a flexible, dynamic, driven individual to join their small friendly team.

The role:

Possible start date: TBC

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm

Total working hours: 37.5

What you will do in your working day:

The key duties of the post are as follows:

  • Communication and liaison with clients at all levels.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly bookkeeping and preparation VAT returns.
  • Assist with preparation of Self-Assessment Returns.
  • Assist with preparation of year end accounts and tax filings.
  • Assist with booking client appointments and onboarding for newly engaged clients.
  • Manage, organise, and update relevant data using database applications.
  • Handling client queries face to face as well as over the phone.
  • Ad-hoc administrative tasks.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment and materials for which the role has responsibility.
  • Plus, other duties consistent with the grade as directed.

The training you will receive:

  • AAT Level 3 Accountancy qualification.
  • All training is undertaken online, through a combination of self-paced eLearning and live online classes.
  • Functional skills in English & Mathematics, if required.

Qualifications required:

GCSE or equivalent English (Grade A* - C 9/4) - Essential

GCSE or equivalent Mathematics (Grade A* - C 9/4) - Essential

Desirable Skills:

  • Bookkeeping or practice experience is a plus.
  • Experience in a customer facing role.
  • Ability to communicate with customers in person and on the telephone.
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to develop relationships with the team.
  • IT experience including practice management software, QuickBooks, Sage and Xero is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to new software.

Due to the changing nature of our client’s business your job description will inevitably change. You will, from time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities as directed by management.
