Founded in 1933, the practice comprises 25 partners and approximately 300 staff supplying a range of services spanning audit, corporate taxation, private client services, VAT and forensic accounting, together with a range of sector groups offering specialist industry knowledge.

The Department:

The Trust team is a small yet busy department of the firm, currently comprising of a Senior Manager, two managers, and an ACA/CTA trainee, who report into two of our Private Client partners.

The department looks after over 300 trusts for clients, both onshore and offshore. This can involve doing the accounts, tax compliance such as tax returns and Trust Registration Service work, dealing with inheritance tax implications and administration of estates.

The Role:

We are looking for an additional trainee within our Trust Department to assist our managers with their portfolios.

This would be a 4 year apprenticeship training contract to study for the ACA/CTA pathway qualification.

Responsibilities:

The duties of this role are varied and can include:

  • Preparing trust accounts (for example, Discretionary Trusts, Life Interest Trusts, and Charitable Trusts)
  • Preparing tax returns for manager review
  • Liaising with HMRC
  • Liaising with clients
  • Providing support to the managers within the department
  • Other ad hoc duties in line with the role

As experience, knowledge and studies progress, the role will develop to taking on more responsibility, including assisting future trainees and other team members, and being part of the wider role that being a trust professional involves.

The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to spend a secondment in our audit and accounts department.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be a graduate (with at least a 2:1 degree and a minimum of 120 UCAS points).

  • A quick learner
  • Able to work on own initiative or as part of a team
  • Numerate
  • Conscientious
  • In possession of good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Accurate and pay attention to detail

In return you will be offered a four-year apprenticeship training contract to complete your ACA and CTA qualifications. The ACA training will be conducted by our training provider, First Intuition, whilst our CTA studies are provided by our tax training partner, Tolleys.

As part of the training process you will also receive on-the-job training in-house to enable you to put the theory into practice.
