Writing for Children (Level 3)

This course gives you the unique opportunity to develop a career as a children's writer. The course has been developed to provide you with the knowledge to develop ideas for books and short stories through to the actual art of children's writing.

Each week, thousands of stories are accepted by publishers to satisfy the demands of their younger readers. These authors are successful because they already have the skills needed and the ideas. This course will teach you the same skills and make you into the successful writer you would like to be.

Module 1 – Why do you want to write for Children

  • Explain why you want to write for Children

Module 2 – Writing for different age groups

  • Discuss which specific age group you would write for and why

Module 3 – Fiction for all ages

  • Summarise the elements of Fiction Writing

Module 4 – Techniques in Children’s Fiction Writing

  • Identify the techniques used in Fiction Writing for Children

Module 5 – More about Techniques

  • Summarise the techniques discussed in this unit

Module 6 – What are your Markets

  • Explain why it is so important to analyse each possible market soundly

Module 7 – Getting down to it

  • Discuss how you actually get down to writing a Children’s Book

Module 8 – Some practical facts for Writers

  • Identify the Practical Facts discussed in this unit


Assessment

Assessments are a great way of checking your progress allowing you to apply your learning to real-world situations. Through the Writing for Children (Level 3) by NCFE, students will be assessed by a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor.

All assignments are set by NCFE. Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by the national awarding organisation NCFE, as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme. There is no external examination required.

What's included:

You will have access to a tutor, via email, who will mark your work and guide you through the course to help you be ready for your examinations. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.

The course pack includes, guidance on relevant study skills and full tutor support comprising:

  • the marking of a series of assignments
  • written answers to specific study problems
  • 12 month tutor support via emails
  • a copy of our study guide, will give you guidance on studying and submitting assignments


Study Time

Study Hours are an approximate figure and are dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow enough time to complete assignments/ question papers.
