The Academy for Distance Learning has a history of supporting wildlife projects. The world renowned Conservationist David Youldon, Chief Operating Officer of AFRICA NEEDS LIONS completed our Advanced Certificate in Wildlife Management and with previous qualifications, went on to study a Masters in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health at Edinburgh University. He was also accepted for a short course in Data Analysis in Ecology at the University of Oxford.

Currently we have the Primate Naturalist: Karin Saks, studying our Primatology course. Karin has been fostering and rehabilitating orphan baboons, caring for injured monkeys returned to the wild, plus promoting a harmonious co-existence between primates and humans since 1997. She also founded The Darwin Primate Group as a non-profit organisation in 2008 and in 2014, moved to Kwazulu Natal to research the endangered samango monkey populations in the Midlands.

Our Wildlife Conservation course will provide you with the foundation knowledge of conserving threatened wildlife. This course covers important aspects related to wildlife conservation such as: habitat use, habitat fragmentation, island bio-geography, genetic diversity and conserving small populations, wildlife survey techniques, flora survey techniques, surveying marine life, working with legislation and much more.

The course also covers conservation issues and as well as learning how to keep them at home. Herpetology is the study of reptiles and amphibians. The term is derived from Linneas’s classification in which he combined reptiles and amphibians into the one category. Herpetology examines the biology and ecology of these animals and their importance to the planet. Herpetology as a scientific study and as a hobby can have positive impacts on the conservation of threatened reptile and amphibian species.

Marine Studies I BEN103

Understand key aspects of marine environments! Build a knowledge of marine life and ecology, whether for work or general interest. The first two lessons deal with marine environments (weather, nutrient cycle, reefs, shallow and deep water environments, etc). Nature Park Management I BEN120

Become skilled at managing nature parks! This course has been specifically designed for people working or wishing to work in nature parks and reserves, in managerial or technical positions. Learn about natural environments, and the management of zoos, wildlife parks, nature reserves. Boost your nature park managing skills further! This online course builds on Nature Park Management I, but can be taken in its own right. It focuses more on indigenous plants and using them to create natural, balanced ecosystems. This course is designed to introduce students to the varied world of birds, their diverse species, habitats and physiology. You’ll learn what is a bird, their evolutionary process and how they adapted in order to colonize the air, land and water. Taxonomy, biology and management of primate animals both in captivity and the wild is what this comprehensive course will teach you. Please can you confirm at which level this course is equivalent to in the UK's National Qualification Framework.

Hello Naill In terms of accreditation we are not national framework, however this is benchmarked as a Level 5 Diploma with a transcript of 60Credits by the awarding body TQUK and would be considered the equivalent of an HNC. The course is excellent for Professional Development and is used by companies, Schools & Universities all over the world . Hello Naill This Level 6 Diploma completes with 60Credits. Since we are not national framework the courses do not qualify with UCAS points. However it is recognised as Professional Development and accepted by companies, colleges and universities all over the world. Kind Regards, Amanda White

In terms of accreditation , we are not national framework therefore not on government list, however our courses are recognized and awarded by the Ofqual awarding body TQUK.
