Overview

Higher Level Teaching Assistant HLTA Course (Level 4) is provided for students already qualified at LV3 & employed in a teaching assistant role.

Students will learn how to address challenges created within the workplace.

They will develop an understanding of the knowledge and skills required to support individuals. Including those with a range of additional needs and small groups.

Learners will complete 7 units of study in total as listed below.

Understand the Higher Level TA role

Understand the functions and requirements for being a HLTA
Understand the requirements for CPD specific to the role of the HLTA
Understand how to work as a team & share specific effective practice with colleagues

Child Development & Welfare

Understand the phases of child development
Be able to analyse the factors that affect children’s development
Understand the impact that parents and carers can have on the welfare and development of a child
Understand how support frameworks can influence the development and welfare of children & young people.

Awareness of special educational needs

Understand the SEN code of practice and disabilities legislation which relate to supporting learners
Understand the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion legislation and codes of practice
Understand how to support children & young people who have special educational needs
Understand the special educational requirements of learners with sensory and/or physical impairments
Understand how to provide support for children & young people with English as as additional language

Promoting Positive Behaviour

Understand policies and procedures which promote positive behaviour in children & young people
Promote positive behaviours in children & young people
Address challenging and inappropriate behaviour from children and young people
Contribute to reviews of behaviour and behaviour management poliicies

Providing Support for Individual Learners & Small Groups

Provide support for Individual learners
Provide support for small groups of learners

Developing Skills to Promote Positive Working Relationships

Be able to communicate with children, young people, colleagues, parents and carers
Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues
Use a range of strategies to set learning objectives and monitor progress and attainment

Plan and deliver lessons which meet the objectives and intended outcomes of learning activities designed for a range of age groups and abilities

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at those already qualified and practising as a level 3 teaching assistant.

Requirements

Learners should already be qualified as a TA and hold one of the following qualifications:

Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools (RQF/QCF)

Level 3 Diploma in Speclialist Support for Teaching & Learning in Schools (RQF/QCF)

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools (Minimum 3 years Experience). Letter of confirmation from your school will be required.

If you have vast experience as a TA, but hold no qualifications, then you may be accepted on the basis of experience (Minimum 5 years experience).

Placement required for a min 1 day per week.

Upon completion, learners will receive a fully recognised qualification. Please note: This course will presume you are already a qualified TA working at Level 3 prior to enrolment.
