Description
The course is aimed at new graduates who wish to develop their careers, together with practising engineers who wish to gain a recognised postgraduate qualification in an important discipline. The overall objective is to produce high quality engineers with an in-depth knowledge of the science and technology of structural integrity, materials degradation, asset ageing and inspection. The underpinning theory and principles of these disciplines will be covered in a set of eight taught modules. Application of theory will be consolidated during a research project. The course equips students with an ability to assess all aspects of asset integrity management, and the necessary knowledge and skills to analyse and act on the survey results obtained.

Requirements:
A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in an engineering, science or technology discipline. English language requirements: IELTS: 6 (min 5.5 in all areas); TOEFL Paper test: 550 (TWE 4) PBT; TOEFL Internet test: 79 IBT (reading 18, listening 17, speaking 20, writing 17); Pearson: 51 (51 in all sub-scores); BrunELT: 60 per cent (min 55 per cent in all areas).
Assessment Methods:
Assessment methods include examination, essay and dissertation.
Modules:
Core modules include: fracture mechanics and fatigue analysis; materials (metallurgy and materials); NDT inspection methodology; codes of practice with principles and application; stress analysis and plant inspection; numerical modelling of solids and structures; reliability engineering; structural health monitoring; dissertation.
