Overview

This course is designed to teach you the basics of what you need to do regarding your book-keeping and to the outline requirements of how to comply with tax legislation. You will be guided on how to keep the necessary records in order to complete your annual tax return. Information will also be given on how to assess the profitability of the business at any time. In addition the course will also cover areas of organising your clinic or practice and the management thereof.

Description

Module 1 – Introduction to business - What business is about - The application of small business

  • Examine a small business, the various types of businesses and factors influencing location
  • Introduce and discuss the business plan and SWOT analysis


Module 2 - Buying and Selling - Costing

  • Examine the various aspects of buying, selling and costing in a business


Module 3 - Banking

  • Discuss the different types of banks and banking procedures


Module 4 - Simple Bookkeeping

  • Introduce the basic principles of business transactions and book keeping


Module 5 - Forms of Ownership – VAT - PAYE

  • Discuss the difference between a sole trader or partnership, and a limited company and examine the various tax implications


Module 6 - Registering a Business

  • Examine requirements regarding laws and regulations prior to buying a business and points to remember when taking over a business

Assessment

Assessments are a great way of checking your progress allowing you to apply your learning to real-world situations. Through the Starting Your Own Business (Level 2) Course by NCFE, students will be assessed by a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor.

All assignments are set by NCFE. Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by the national awarding organisation NCFE, as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme.

There is no external examination required.
