Course Curriculum

Module 1: Introduction to Special Education Need Co-ordinators

  • In this foundational module, participants will understand the core concept of the SENCo roles and responsibilities. They will also learn the core principles of SENCo and how SENCo and other staff assist learners with SEN in educational settings.

Module 2: Statutory Provisions for SENCO

  • In this module, participants will gain insight into the legal framework that underpins the role of an SEN coordinator. They will explore the children and families act 2014, the SEND code of practice related to SEN and disabled children, the united nations convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC) 1989 and more.

Module 3: Types of Special Educational Needs and the Code of Practice

  • In this module, participants will explore various types of special educational needs and the code of practice or the guideline that shapes the identification, assessment, and support of students with special needs.

Module 4: The SENCo Role in SEN Policy and Practice

  • In this module, participants will learn about the role of a SEN coordinator in implementing and enforcing SEN policies within educational institutions. They will understand how to properly arrange admission for all students, how to promote inclusive learning, how to assist the class teacher in providing quality teaching and more.

Module 5: SEN Identification and the Graduated Approach to Support

  • In this module, participants will learn the critical process of identifying and addressing the special educational needs of children. They will recognise the key steps of identifying SEN according to the various types and after identification, they will learn how to tailor the support based on the specific needs of each student.

Module 6: SENCo role in EHCP, Monitoring & Managing

  • In this module, participants will learn about EHCP and the roles of a SEN coordinator in monitoring and managing the educational, health and care needs of SEN children. They will learn how to assess and plan the EHCP needs of the students and how to assist the class teachers and other staff in ensuring the needs are fulfilled.

Module 7: Working with SEN Children, Parents and Others

  • In this module, participants will learn how to work collaboratively with the children with SEN, their parents, caregivers and others. They will learn how to assess the learning needs of the children and how to arrange support with the class teacher, parents and others, how to arrange meetings with parents, teachers and other related individuals and more.

Module 8: The SENCo and the Senior Leadership Team

  • In this module, participants will gain insight into the crucial role of collaborating with the senior leadership team and colleagues of the educational institution to support and implement SEN policies within the institution.

Module 9: The Role of SENCo in Early Years

  • In this module, participants will understand the role of an SEN coordinator in promoting the learning development of children in their early years. They will understand the early years observation for SEN, the provisions for early years, assessment according to age group and more.

Module 10: The Role of SENCo in Schools

  • In this module, participants will understand the multifaceted role of a SENCo within the school environment. Here, participants will understand the key stages of primary and secondary education in the UK, and the pivotal role of SENCo in the schools including policy development, identifying and meeting SEN, supporting colleagues and more.

Module 11: Coordination in Local Offers and Support from Specialists

  • In this module, participants will learn about the local offers and the role of a SENCo in coordinating with the local offers and other specialists to benefit students with special educational needs.

Module 12: Developing Inclusive Practice & Positive Learning Environment

  • In this module, participants will understand what inclusive practice is and how as SENCo they can develop and promote inclusive practice and a positive environment within the educational setting.

Module 13: Coordinating Colleagues and Professionals

  • In this module, participants will dive into the process of collaborative teamwork with colleagues and other professionals. Here they will explore strategies for working harmoniously with fellow colleagues and other related professionals to ensure appropriate support and provisions for pupils with SEN or other disabilities.

Module 14: SENCo: Required Characteristics & Qualification

  • In this module, participants will discover the essential attributes, skills and qualifications required to excel in the role of a Special Educational Needs Coordinator.

Module 15: Barriers & Opportunities

  • In this module, participants will understand the challenges and opportunities that Special Educational Needs Coordinators encounter in their roles and how to overcome the challenges effectively and help students with diverse learning needs.

Method of Assessment

Learners must answer MCQs after completing the modules to complete the assessment procedure. Through the MCQs, it is measured how much a learner can grasp from each section. In the assessment, the pass mark is 60%.
