This course need not only appeal to those wanting to start an agency of their own, but also to anyone wanting to have more investigative power / skills in their own business and private life. The course is intended to equip the student with many means of accessing all forms of information in a legal and moral manner.
Prospects
In the UK as well as many other western countries, there is no requirement for any form of licence of other permit / control at this time. One can start this service industry on a shoestring while keeping their day job. As the business grows it can provide an extremely high income for those willing to work hard. Simply checking the hourly rate of local detective agencies will prove this point. The need for the private investigator is growing at a very rapid rate.
Description
Module 1 - Introduction - Tools of the Trade - Theft Part I
Summarise the life of a Private Detective, the equipment necessary to the job and briefly discuss ‘theft’
Explain your understanding of a Private Detective and summarise what his job entails
List and identify some trade tools
Define the meaning of ‘theft’
Module 2 - Theft Part II
Analyse theft in its definitions and legal status and explain the concept of tracing
Summarise what happens when a person handles stolen goods unknowingly
Discuss the importance of P.A.C.E. and explain its significance to a Private Investigator
Explain how you would trace a missing person
Module 3 - Tracing
Evaluate what information you would gather to trace a teenage runaway and summarise the importance of clues
List questions you would ask to help locate a missing teenager
Describe how you would gather clues
Module 4 - Surveillance
Introduce the various aspects of surveillance
Explain why recording information is of great importance
Describe in your own words the ‘art of watching without watching’
Module 5 - Electronic Equipment & Counter Espionage - Polygraph Calibrator
Discuss the different types of technological surveillance available to a Private Investigator and examine the pertinent points to consider while attending court
Analyse the different technological surveillances giving their advantages and disadvantages
Examine lawful inferences connected with using surveillance devices
Summarise what you should expect if required to attend court
Module 6 - Repossession
Examine the various techniques of re-possessing goods
Discuss why re-possessions are necessary

Module 8 - Interviewing & Interrogation
Define the interviewing and interrogation process, discuss what is involved in taking a statement and explain how to set up an Agency

Assessment
Assessments are a great way of checking your progress allowing you to apply your learning to real-world situations. Through the Private Investigating (Level 4) Course by NCFE, students will be assessed by a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor.
All assignments are set by NCFE. Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by the national awarding organisation NCFE, as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme.
There is no external examination required.

You will have access to a tutor, via email, who will mark your work and guide you through the course to help you be ready for your examinations. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.
