Planning Information Systems (Byte Size Skills Course) Course

IT has powerful effects in a globally-networked world. IT-based information systems have enormous potential to enhance important business features such as productivity, profitability, quality, customer service, creativity, and decision making. We now need to consider what we have to do if we want to successfully implement IT-based information systems.

We see how they must be planned for, justified, constructed, operated, maintained and protected if they are to enable and support the business. We also explore the concerns that managers face as they deal with information systems.

This course concentrates on what must be done before we begin the development of any information system; to plan.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

• understand the relationship between business planning and information systems planning
• identify the major issues raised by the need for information systems planning
• identify the key role of information systems requirements in the information systems planning process
• relate business systems requirements to the choice of information technology architectures
• assess the economics of systems development.

Study Options

In order to offer our students the most convenient and flexible distance learning courses, Stonebridge Associated College offers you the option to study for your course via two methods:

• 1. Via the traditional paper-based method.
• 2. Through the online method.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.

Tutor Support

It is your personal tutor's role to ensure that you receive constructive feedback and to deal with any queries you may have. You are more than welcome to telephone, fax or email your personal tutor.

Assessment Method

After each lesson there will be a question paper, which needs to be completed and submitted to your personal tutor for marking. This method of continual assessment ensures that your personal tutor can consistently monitor your progress and provide you with assistance throughout the duration of the course.

Award 2 is issued by our Awarding Body: Level 1 Planning Information Systems (Byte Size Skills Course) Award

At the end of this course successful learners will also receive a Level 1 NCFE Award Certificate of Achievement. Our course has been accredited under our NCFE IIQ Licence and the course measurable learning outcomes have been benchmarked at Level 1 (using Ofqual's Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) level descriptors) to allow you to consider the depth of study, difficulty, and level of achievement involved.
