Overview
This online course is ideal for anyone interested in computers. It will take you through the basic structural components of a PC, and introduce you to basic networking, security and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows. During the course, students will learn how to:
- Recognise major components of a PC and the functions they provide;
- Diagnose a wide range of common (and not so common!) hardware problems, using the software tools provided and simple instructions supported by close-up photographs;
- Optimise and utilise the major Windows functions and utilities, and diagnose a wide range of typical problems; and
- Use the Internet to your advantage with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and learn the fundamentals of Website Design.

Qualification Information
On successful completion of this course students will receive the PC Master Class Open Awards Level 3 Certificate Award with 8 Open Awards Credits.
Open Award Credits can be accumulated with other course or unit credits over a period of time which can lead to an accredited qualification.
The course measurable learning outcomes have been benchmarked at Level 3 (using Ofqual's Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) level descriptors) to allow you to consider the depth of study, difficulty, and level of achievement involved.

The certification is issued through Open Awards. Open Awards are an Awarding Body Organisation approved by Ofqual. Set up in 1981, Open Awards (Previously the North West Region of the National Open College Network - OCNNW) have been in business for over 30 years and are a not for profit organisation and a registered charity.
Method of Study
The training programme is delivered through an on-line training portal, accessible by a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. You'll have access to a range of useful resources, including multiple choice practice quizzes, interactive exercises, and your own dedicated tutor.
Method of Assessment
You will be assessed on the completed assignments contained in the training programme. Your work can be submitted to your course tutor by email or by post on completion of your training.
Requirements
We recommend that anyone studying this course should own a PC with the Windows Operating System, or an Apple Mac. As this is an online course it can be accessed on any computer that has an internet connection. However, some of the software packages detailed in this course will require specific system requirements and so students using different platforms may need to source alternative software packages.
