Description
Drug addictions had caused numerous problems like medical issues to the person, emotional damage to the person misusing the substance and even to the people around them like friends and families. It is quite challenging and difficult to quit an addiction but the awareness of how harmful it is to the body may provide a window of hope to finally stop and get rehabilitated.
At the end of this course, students shall learn how to:
(1) be familiar with the history of the use and misuse of drugs in society;
(2) understand the effects of drugs on the individual and society;
(3) be familiar with stimulants and narcotics;
(4) be familiar with hallucinogens and marijuana;
(5) be familiar with steroids;
(6) be familiar with alcohol;
(7) be familiar with tobacco, caffeine and solvents;
(8) understand prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs;
(9) understand sedatives and anti-anxiety drugs;
(10) be familiar with prescription drugs for schizophrenia and affective disorders and
(11) be familiar with treatment and preventative education.
To achieve these goals, this course shall make use of interactive materials to present the concepts of the topics to be discussed. Assessments shall be done after the entire course to check for knowledge retention and understanding.
