Overview

NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management

The NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management is designed to provide a sound foundation in environmental management knowledge and practice.

From 13 June students who hold the NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management, and whose result was declared from June 2013 onwards, are eligible for Associate membership of IEMA. This means that they can:

- access a wide range of membership benefits

- get professional recognition with the AIEMA designatory letters

Both NEBOSH qualifications and IEMA membership are highly respected by colleagues and employers.

Units

The qualification focuses on international environmental management systems, such as ISO 14001, pollution control energy and waste management.

The syllabus covers the practical issues of managing environmental risk, taking a risk management approach based on best practices and international standards, including:

  • Environmental Management Systems and Impact Assessments
  • Sources and use of energy and energy efficiency
  • Control of pollution
  • Planning for and dealing with environmental emergencies

Unit EC1 Management and control of environmental hazards

  • Foundations in environmental management
  • Environmental management systems
  • Environmental impact assessments
  • Control of emissions to air
  • Control of contamination of water resources
  • Control of waste and land use
  • Sources and use of energy and energy efficiency
  • Control of environmental noise
  • Planning for and dealing with environmental emergencies

Unit EC2 Environmental practical application*

*To be submitted within two weeks following final exam.

Assessment Process

The syllabus is divided into two assessed units - taught unit EC1 (which contain the following elements), and a practical assessment unit EC2). A certificate is awarded for successful completion of each unit.

EC1 - 2HR EXAM – 1 x 20 mark, 10 x 8 Mark Questions

EC2 - The practical will need to be completed in the delegates own time and submitted within two weeks of the exam date.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
