A reasonable level of literacy is required as this is a Level 2 Award course, but there are no entry restrictions.
What skills will I gain?
This nationally recognised qualification is designed to provide individuals with the techniques, support and understanding that is required for working with individuals that have mental health problems. The programme covers many issues including understanding mental health and mental health illness and regulated legislation, as well as raising awareness of the processes and approaches involved in the care and support of those who experience mental health issues.
Upon successful completion you will have achieved a nationally recognised, QCF listed qualification at Level 2.
Module breakdown & Qualification Structure
Unit 1: Mental health and mental health issues - Learners will look at the background to mental health issues and the legislation surrounding mental health problems and illnesses.
Unit 2: Introduction of duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people's settings - The implications of duty of care will be introduced in this unit and learners will look at resolving dilemmas and responding to complaints that may arise where there is a duty of care.
Unit 3: Valuing equality and diversity - This unit investigates inequality and stereotyping and allows learners to identify the differences between discrimination and prejudice.
Unit 4: Approaches to care and management in mental health - Learners will gain an understanding of the care planning process, the aspects of good practice in care planning, the key components of a risk assessment and the agencies involved in the care process.
Unit 5: Understanding change and support in relation to mental health - This unit explains how mental health change occurs and the role of others in supporting mental health change.
