Are there any requirements?
A reasonable level of literacy is required as this is a Level 2 Award course, but there are no entry restrictions.
What skills will I gain?
An increased awareness of the importance of the prevention and control of infection whilst providing you with an appreciation and understanding of current legislation and best practise. This home study course covers a wide range of topics including the principles of infection prevention and control, the causes and spread of infection and the importance of correct cleaning procedures, decontamination and waste management.
Upon successful completion you will have achieved a nationally recognised, QCF listed qualification at Level 2.
Module breakdown & Qualification Structure
Unit 1: Principles of the causes and spread of infection in healthcare settings - Learners will gain an understanding of the chain of infection and look at how infection is caused and how it can spread.
Unit 2: Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in healthcare settings - This unit explores the importance of personal hygiene and effective hand washing and the principles of using personal protective equipment.
Unit 3: Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in healthcare settings - Learners will gain an understanding of how important cleaning, decontamination, sterilisation and waste management is within the healthcare setting.
Unit 4: Principles of infection prevention and control in a healthcare setting - This unit will explain the purpose of infection control and look in detail at the regulations, policies, procedures, risk assessments and roles and responsibilities in relation to infection control.
