About this Course
The Certificate in Understanding Working in Mental Health distance learning course is the ideal programme for individuals wishing to increase their knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental health illness.
This nationally recognised qualification is designed to provide individuals with the techniques, support and understanding that is required for working with individuals that have mental health problems. The programme covers many issues including understanding mental health and mental health illness and regulated legislation, as well as raising awareness of the processes and approaches involved in the care and support of those who experience mental health issues.

Description
Course Content
Unit 1: Mental health and mental health issues
Learners will look at the background to mental health issues and the legislation surrounding mental health problems and illnesses.
Unit 2: Introduction of duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people's settings
The implications of duty of care will be introduced in this unit and learners will look at resolving dilemmas and responding to complaints that may arise where there is a duty of care.
Unit 3: Valuing equality and diversity
This unit investigates inequality and stereotyping and allows learners to identify the differences between discrimination and prejudice.
Unit 4: Approaches to care and management in mental health
Learners will gain an understanding of the care planning process, the aspects of good practice in care planning, the key components of a risk assessment and the agencies involved in the care process.
Unit 5: Understanding change and support in relation to mental health
This unit explains how mental health change occurs and the role of others in supporting mental health change. Different treatment options will also be

A registration fee of £52.00 is due within four weeks of enrolment if you wish to receive an NCFE certificate on successful completion of your course.
Please note that certificates are issued 3 times per year
Method of Study
- This course is a paper based course so you can keep the materials as a reference
- You will get full tutor support via email
- You will receive feedback on your assignments from our experienced tutors and the results will be posted on our e-Assesor portal
- You will be given guidance through the Study Guide on the nuts and bolts of studying the course
- Postal assignments cannot be accepted without prior permission from the tutor
- You must have access to the internet and email in order to contact your tutor.
Method of Assessment
The course contains a number of assignments which your tutor will mark and give you valuable feedback on. We call these Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs).
Course Length Information
The guided learning hours (GLH) for this course is 120 and you can take the course over a maximum of 12 months. If you do not complete within this time them you will need to re-enrol . Extensions are not allowed.
Tutor Support
You will have access to a tutor via email who will mark your work, guide you through the course and assist you with any problems you may have. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.
