Overview

This MSc course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills which will enable you to contribute to the advancement of healthcare. To achieve this qualification, you will need to successfully complete three 60-credit modules, Leading healthcare improvements (K827), Researching and evaluating healthcare practice (K828) and Transforming professional practice (K829).

In K827, you will investigate the theory and practice of healthcare improvement, exploring what healthcare improvement means and how it can be achieved through change agency, collaboration and partnership and the field of improvement science. You will develop leadership skills in relation to policy, innovation and service improvement.

In K828, you will develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of using research and evidence-based practice to support service improvements in relation to advancing healthcare practice. Research skills are considered an important part of advancing healthcare practice, so within K828 you will pay particular attention to the conception, design and conduct of research that has significance and benefit in the practice setting.

In the final module, K829, you will build on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed through your study of the two previous module to undertake a project that focuses on a service or system improvement based on the needs and the priorities of your health related practice area. This module will provide opportunities to conduct a project that is of immediate and clear benefit to stakeholders in healthcare.

You will consult with practice colleagues locally and make strategic recommendations for change, which draw both upon evidence and a careful analysis of experience. You will be taught how to disseminate your discoveries to others and be introduced to ways in which your improved practice might be shared more widely.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
