Study a course designed for in-service teachers who want to develop their language teaching skills and enhance their professional ability. The course guides you through analysing, teaching, learning and researching language and enables you to join an international community of teachers.

Description

This course is for experienced in-service English language teachers who wish to undertake professional work-based learning and develop their career potential. The course enables you to broaden your understanding of how language works, and how it is learned or acquired.

You explore a wide range of TESOL issues relevant to you and your institution, while developing experience in the methodologies that underpin educational research. You also enhance your ability to reflect on your own practice and working environment.

This course provides the opportunity to

• extend your knowledge and understanding in specialist areas of TESOL
• evaluate critically areas of the TESOL profession’s theory and practice
• complete assignments and a research project related to your working situation. These projects aid your professional development and can benefit your workplace.

This distance learning course is supported with the university's virtual learning environment. No face-to-face attendance is required as you become part of an international community of teachers through on-line discussion and receive email and SKYPE support from tutors.

Requirements

2016 entry requirements**Applicants must have*• a degree or equivalent qualification*• at least two years’ experience of teaching in the profession and be currently teaching *• have successfully completed the Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL, Cambridge CELTA or equivalent **If you have successfully completed a recognised professional teaching diploma in TESOL, such as the Trinity College Licentiate Diploma or Cambridge (DELTA) you are exempt from stage one.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
