Overview

The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements needed to work effectively and efficiently as a sports massage therapist. This includes anatomy and physiology, professional practice, an understanding of the principles of health and fitness and how to provide sports massage treatments. The level 3 sports massage therapist will be able to work safely and effectively on dysfunctional tissue in a range of contexts, to include pre-event, post event, intra-event and for maintenance purposes. 

The structure of the qualification is comprised of 5 units which are all mandatory.

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  • Professional practice in sports massage
  • Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
  • Principles of health and fitness
  • Sports massage treatments

Description

Learners can expect a mix of practical and theory sessions, with an initial focus on the knowledge and skills required moving to a more practical focus as their skills develop. With support from experienced tutors, students will work with clients in our professionally appointed clinic at the Framwellgate Moor Campus, as well as at local sporting events to ensure that they are competent and confident in a full range of settings.

Eligibility and suitability will be discussed upon application or enquiry but aptitude to learning, previous experience and existing qualifications will all be considered.
