Overview

On this course you will discover how you can get the best out of Office, be more productive and create great looking documents.

The course focuses on giving you an introduction to 3 main programs; Word, Excel and Outlook.

Even if you already have a basic knowledge of office, perhaps from an earlier version, or through a friend's teaching, you will find out how to take the next step and use Office to the full.

Our aim is to develop your confidence regardless of your age or current ability. You will be in a small supportive class with a friendly, patient tutor and other like-minded learners.

Over the course of the sessions we will look at how you can get the best out of Office, be more productive and create great looking documents, centred around the following structure:

Introduction to Office

Looking at the possibilities of the Microsoft Office suite of programs
Common functions
Opening and closing files
Editing
Printing


Word Basics

Creating a document
Working with texts and fonts
Headings and margins
Adding pictures and graphics

 
Excel Basics

Potential uses for an Excel document
Looking at worksheets
Entering data
Working with data
Using formulas
Formatting and printing



Outlook Basics

Communication and personal information management
Investigating the main features
Email
Calendar
Contacts
Ways of printing
Linking to other programs


And after the course?

We can also offer more detailed training on a particular program, including Powerpoint and Publisher.

In addition, from September we will be starting a weekly 'Buddy' session that will support learners as they build on the skills already developed.

Who is the course for?

You may not have perviously used Microsoft Office, or might want to expand your current experience of documents and spreadsheets. Perhaps you realise that Office can do more than you think, but you're not sure where to look.

Alternatively, You may have used a previous version of Word or Excel and want to remind yourself of it's basic features, or be struggling to familiarise yourself with the new 'Ribbon' layout.

Our aim is to develop your confidence regardless of your age or current ability. You will be in a small supportive class with a friendly, patient tutor and other like-minded learners.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
