You will study the human body as well as the plant and animal kingdoms at every level from microscopic to larger lifeforms.
Through the IGCSE Biology course you will look at the characteristics and variety of living organisms, and at their structures and functions. Reproduction and inheritance will also be studied.
IGCSE Biology also takes a wider perspective and looks at ecology and the environment, and use of biological resources.
Through biology study you will gain a knowledge of biological facts and principles at the same time as developing experimental skills.
Description
The IGCSE Biology coursework covers a range of topics relating to all types of living organisms and their interrelationships.
Nature and variety of living organisms
- You will learn the characteristics shared by all living organisms and the features which define the different groups, such as plants, animals, fungi and others.
Structures and functions in living organisms
- You will learn the basics of cell structure and biological molecules. Nutrition and respiration are described, as are gas exchange, transport and excretion. You will also learn about the issues involved in coordination and response.
Reproduction and inheritance
- You will learn the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction and look at the different processes in plants and humans. You will also study the process of inheritance and the role of genes, chromosomes and DNA.
Ecology and the environment
- You will look at the relationship of an organism and its environment and learn about feeding relationships and cycles within ecosystems. The course will also teach you about human influences on the environment.
