The IAB Level 1 Award in Manual Bookkeeping is a great way to start a career as a bookkeeper. It's accredited by the International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB), the leading UK and international professional body.

It starts with an introduction to bookkeeping, with accounting concepts and basic bookkeeping techniques. You'll learn about the functions of bookkeeping in business, about credit transactions, payment methods and bank reconciliations. You'll become proficient in balancing cash books, processing petty cash receipts and handling the business bank account.

You will complete the Level 1 Bookkeeping course with the skills needed for entry-level bookkeeping jobs role and the knowledge you need to progress to further IAB training.

For your IAB assessment you will be required to complete an assignment which is included in your course material as well as an external exam.

The examination will last two hours and will consist of four sections, with the first three sections containing four hand-written tasks and the final section containing six hand-written tasks.

Requirements

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol in our Level 1 Award IAB course. That's because we believe in making home study - and a rewarding future - as accessible as possible. However, you will need basic numeracy and literacy skills.
