Overview
ICS Learn have completely redesigned the structure of their new GCSE Mathematics course to give students complete control over the pace and progression of their learning. This GCSE Mathematics course will cover all content for the reformed GCSE Maths syllabus at both Foundation and Higher tier across four study units. Rather than working through separate areas of Mathematics topic by topic, students will work through four units structured in order of Mathematical demand and target grade level. Each unit builds on the content of the one before it while introducing new topics of increasing demand. Students will be provided with test papers at the end of each unit and after completing each test the next unit will be made available. These end-of-unit tests will contain exam-style questions and will allow tutors to gauge students’ progress and comprehension of the materials and grade approximately in line with the GCSE Maths grade bands.
Description
The ICS Learn GCSE Mathematics course for the Edexcel specification is made up of four units containing all topics which relate to the three externally examined assessments at both Foundation and Higher tier.
Topics covered:
- Numbers
- Algebra
- Ratio, proportion and rates of change
- Geometry and measures
- Statistics and probability
Study Units – Ordered by Mathematical demand
Study Unit 1: Revising the Basics - Foundation 1
This first study unit will provide a basic introduction to all the key areas of the course including number, algebra, ratio, proportion and rates of change, geometry and measures, and statistics and probability.
Study Unit 2: Moving On - Foundation 2/Higher 1
New topics introduced in this unit will include index laws, solving more complex linear equations and inequalities, transformation geometry and using frequency tree diagrams.
Study Unit 3: Preparing for Higher tier – Foundation 3/Higher 2
The benefit of this course structure means that if students wish to stop at this point and enter the Foundation tier exams, they may. The tutors will be there to support the students as they continue to practice, review and revise the content from the first three Study Units in preparation for their final Foundation tier exams.
Study Unit 4: Mastering Higher tier - Higher 3
On completion of this final unit students should have the confidence to answer the majority of questions on the Higher tier exam papers.
