Assessment Procedure

Students must complete a variety of interactive online examinations at the conclusion of each module to evaluate the understanding and skills they are learning in this GCSE Chemistry Course. These assessments also determine if students can demonstrate these skills effectively. At the end of the module, you can also keep track of your progress and regularly check your score.

When you will be ready for the official exam there is an additional registration fee of £345 (Exd. VAT) to book the official exam.

About Official Exam

There are two paper-based and practical tests in the AQA-accredited GCSE Chemistry Higher Tier.

Assessment Format of Paper 1

  • Concepts covered: Atomic structure and the periodic table, bonding, structure, and the properties of matter, quantitative chemistry, chemical changes; and energy changes.
  • Exam time: 1 Hour 45 minutes written exam
  • Total marks: 100
  • Total weight: 50% of GCSE
  • Question format: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response

Assessment Format of Paper 2

  • Concepts covered: The rate and extent of chemical change, organic chemistry; chemical analysis, the chemistry of the atmosphere; and using resources
  • Exam time: 1 Hour 45 minutes written exam
  • Total marks: 100
  • Total weight: 50% of GCSE
  • Question format: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response

Assessment Format of Practical Assessment

In the written exam questions, instructors will assess students' knowledge and comprehension of the material they have covered in the course through a range of practical activities and demonstrations. These questions will account for at least 15% of the total score for the qualifying. Additionally, the majority of these questions will focus on how well students can conduct independent research and apply their knowledge to real-world situations.

Certification

You will receive an AQA-accredited qualification after successfully passing the GCSE Chemistry exam. Numerous professional and academic organisations including governmental agencies in the UK and other countries accept certifications that have been certified by AQA. This means you can share this certificate with prospective employers and your professional network.

The higher tier paper has a grade scale between 4-9, and if you don't receive at least a 4, you will receive a permitted grade of 3. Additionally, your records will be recorded as U (unclassified) and you won't receive a certificate of completion if you don't meet the standards of a grade level for an authorised grade 3.
